The power problem on site
Surveillance has to work from the day the site is fenced. If the grid arrives late, you choose between a fuel generator, a battery that is recharged, and a solar source.
Generator: simple, with hidden costs
It is the usual starting point. It needs fuel, maintenance and refuelling visits, it is noisy, and it is a frequent theft target on site. Count its cost over several months, not just the purchase price.
Battery with recharging
It works while it has charge, but someone has to recharge or replace it. Real runtime depends on the draw of the camera, lighting and communications, and on the number of cloudy days.
Solar tower: what to check before you buy
- Orientation and shade: the panel needs daylight. Check for trees or structures that cover it.
- Real draw of the camera, lighting and data transmission.
- Wind and height: stability depends on the height and the wind load of the model.
- 4G coverage at the site.
How HELIX handles it
HELIX combines a solar panel, a battery and a 4G connection in a 10.5 kg, 6 m tower, with no foundations and no crane. Exact panel and battery values are confirmed in the technical sheet for each configuration.
