How to choose the height of a surveillance tower

More height gives more reach, but also more wind load and more weight. This is how to choose between the 2, 4, 6 and 8 metre models.

Height and field of view

A camera mounted higher sees farther and over fences, vehicles and vegetation. What blocks the view is usually the tallest obstacle on the perimeter, not the ground.

The four models

  • 2M Compact: indoor use and events. 5.5 kg, 36 m/s anchored wind rating, 100 kg payload.
  • 4M Standard: plots and car parks. 8 kg, 36 m/s anchored wind rating, 100 kg payload.
  • 6M Professional: construction and rental fleets. 10.5 kg, 36 m/s anchored wind rating, 100 kg payload.
  • 8M Special: maximum height, made to order. 13 kg, 36 m/s anchored wind rating, lead time 3 to 4 weeks.

Height and wind

The higher the tower, the greater the wind load on the structure. That is why the technical sheet lists the maximum wind rating of each model instead of a general figure.

A simple method

Start with the tallest obstacle on the perimeter, measure its height and add one metre. That is the first criterion. Then check the weight your vehicle can carry and the typical wind in your area.
